Police arrested two former leaders of the BNP’s Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal in separate raids in Chatmohar, Pabna, on Wednesday night.
They are expected to be produced before a local court on Thursday.
The arrestees are Buri Sarkar, 42, senior vice-president of the Chatmohar upazila unit committee (now dissolved) of the Mohila Dal; and Rahima Reza, 45, who was expelled from her organising secretary post of the same committee.
Chatmohar Police Station’s Officer-in-charge Md Manzurul Alam said the court earlier issued arrest warrants against Rahima and Buri. They are facing charges of robbery and attempted murder, the OC said.
Tamanna Aziza Swarna, general secretary of the same dissolved committee, filed a case against Rahima, Buri, and several others on 23 August.
According to the case statement, Swarna was going to attend a BNP programme near the bus stand in Afratpara on that day. Due to previous enmity, Rahima and Buri attacked her with sharp weapons, leaving her critically injured.
