President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will visit Sylhet on Tuesday for the first time since taking office.
Authorities are making extensive preparations for his visit. The Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) is organising a civic reception on the Nagar Bhaban premises at 3pm.
According to the schedule, the president will arrive in Sylhet on Tuesday and visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
He will later attend the civic reception before returning to Dhaka in the evening.
The local administration has stepped up security and other arrangements to ensure a safe visit.
The Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) held a coordination meeting on Saturday to review security measures, traffic management and the movement of vehicles during the president’s visit.
Earlier, the district administration also held a preparatory meeting.
The SMP meeting was held at its headquarters at 3:30pm on Saturday, chaired by Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim.
The meeting discussed maintaining law and order, strengthening security at key installations and tourist spots, traffic management, regulating public movement, intelligence gathering and analysis, and preparations for emergencies.
The officials also discussed coordination among law enforcement agencies and government bodies to ensure overall security.
The SMP commissioner urged all relevant agencies to work together and perform their duties in a coordinated manner to ensure a safe and smooth visit.
Senior officials and representatives of law enforcement, intelligence and government service agencies attended the meeting.
Earlier on Thursday, SCC Administrator Abdul Qayum Chowdhury met the president at Bangabhaban and briefed him on the tour schedule and preparations for the civic reception.
After the meeting, the SCC administrator said preparations for the reception were nearly complete and that the expectations of city residents would be reflected in the event.
