The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, in collaboration with the DUET Career and Research Club (DUET CRC), organised a seminar titled “Research Excellence, International Collaboration, and Higher Education: Pathways to Global Opportunities” on Wednesday.

The seminar was held at the Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium and was attended by university teachers, researchers and students from different departments and institutes, reads a press release.

DUET Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Iqbal attended the programme as the chief guest.

DUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Md Arefin Kawsar was present as the special guest.

Director of Student Welfare Utpal Kumar Das and IQAC Additional Director Shafiqul Islam also attended the event as special guests.

The keynote paper was presented by Saidur Rahman, distinguished research professor at Sunway University, Malaysia, and head of the Research Centre for Nano-Materials and Energy Technology.

DUET CRC President Hasanur Rahman delivered the welcome address.

Speaking at the event, Iqbal said, “In this era of globalisation, one of our key goals is to create opportunities for our students and researchers to connect with world-class research institutions.

Since its establishment, DUET has remained committed to producing quality engineering graduates and promoting research and innovation in engineering and technology.

We want our students to demonstrate their talent and competence on the international stage.

To achieve this, the university administration has been working to sign memorandums of understanding with international universities and research institutions, undertake joint research projects, and expand teacher and student exchange programmes.”

He expressed hope that the seminar would play an important role in strengthening DUET’s research culture and enhancing the university’s position in the international academic arena.

Arefin said, “We are making every effort to ensure that our students can take advantage of global research opportunities by establishing links with international institutions.

The experience shared by experts like Saidur will serve as a valuable guide for our students and researchers.”

In his keynote presentation, Saidur highlighted the importance of international networking, joint research projects and global partnerships in achieving research excellence.

He also provided detailed guidance to students on pursuing higher education opportunities abroad.

Chairing the seminar, IQAC Director Md Obaidur Rahman said, “Research and international collaboration are essential to ensuring quality higher education. This seminar will help our students and researchers develop a global outlook.”

The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, where students asked various questions about international higher education and research scholarships, which were answered by the keynote speaker.

The event ended with a vote of thanks from the chair.
