The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) has demanded that those associated with BNP be brought to justice over allegations of attacks across the country. They have also announced a return to the streets if their demand is not implemented.
Ducsu leaders made this announcement at a press conference organised in front of the Ducsu building at Dhaka University at 5:30pm on Saturday.
At the press conference, Ducsu called upon BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman to give instructions to his leaders and activists stating that “terrorist politics will not be tolerated in Bangladesh.” At the same time, Ducsu expressed its “sincere thanks” to the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for not destabilising the country in the post-election period.
During the press conference, Ducsu Vice President (VP) Abu Shadik Kayem said, “The July Revolution happened to break this fascist structure, to break the Hasina politics and build a new politics. But we are seeing that same Hasina politics, the post-election violence, fighting, and threats of ‘we will see’ that we witnessed during the fascist era.”
He demanded that all those involved in this violence be “brought to justice.” Shadik Kayem warned, “If you fail, we will return to the streets again.”
Addressing BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman, Shadik Kayem said, “You give instructions to your leaders and activists. You give them clear instructions that this terrorist politics will not work in Bangladesh, this politics of threats will not work in Bangladesh.”
In response to a question about whether Ducsu protests the violence perpetrated on BNP leaders and activists reported in various media, SM Farhad told journalists, “Yes, all of it. From our position, we are against every attack. If Jamaat does it anywhere, or NCP does it, or attacks anyone, we will be against it.”
He said, “I have responsibly checked three incidents where allegations were coming against NCP and allegations were coming against Jamaat. In all three, upon investigation, I saw that because they lost, one group has started blaming another group (of BNP) and attacking each other.”
