Two youths accused in a case over an attack on a house in the capital’s Adabor area were shot during a police raid early Tuesday.
DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) Jewel Rana confirmed the incident.
Four people were arrested in the case with Adabor Police Station on 27 September over allegations of an attempt to occupy a house, vandalism and extortion on Road No. 8 in Shyamoli Housing.
The arrestees were identified as Rajib Hawlader, 30, Sagar alias Chhoto Bigar, 24, Shakib, 23, and Rashed, 24.
Rajib and Sagar sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police also recovered several sharp weapons from the scene.
With the latest arrests, police have so far arrested 10 people in connection with the case.
The incident occurred around 2:30am on Tuesday near the Nabodoy Housing Kitchen Market in Adabor.
Acting on a tip-off, police learned that several suspects were staying near the market. A police team subsequently conducted a raid at the location.
Police official Jewel Rana said seven to eight criminals, armed with sharp weapons, attempted to attack the officers. In self-defence, police fired two rounds from a shotgun carried by Constable Moshrekul Islam. Rajib Howlader and Sagar alias Choto Bigar sustained gunshot injuries.
Police later arrested Rajib, Sagar, Shakib and Rashed from the scene, while the remaining suspects managed to flee. Efforts are under way to arrest those who escaped.
According to police, Rajib is the prime accused named in the FIR of the Babu murder case in Mohammadpur. Sagar is accused in eight cases filed with Adabor and Mohammadpur police stations. Shakib and Rashed each face five cases.
