Three people, including an expatriate and a refrigerator mechanic, were injured in separate attacks by miscreants in the capital’s Badda area on Monday night.
The injured were identified as Al Amin, 25, and Saiful Islam, 23, who suffered gunshot wounds, and Md Abdullah, 16, a secondary school examinee who was injured in a sharp weapon attack. All three received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later returned home.
Expatriate caught in crossfire
Al Amin, an expatriate and son of Babul Selim, lives behind Alatunnessa School in Badda.
His friend Md Russel said Al Amin was walking along a road behind the school in South Badda around 10 pm when he was caught in the middle of a gunfight between two groups.
A bullet hit his right leg below the knee during the clash. He was rescued from the spot and taken to DMCH around midnight.
Schoolboy injured in clash
Abdullah, son of Abul Hossain and a resident of Middle Badda’s 11th Sarani, was injured during the same clash after being attacked with sharp weapons and beaten.
His maternal uncle Kawsar Tariq said Abdullah was spending time outside with two friends when they became caught in the middle of the confrontation.
“Abdullah did not go there on behalf of any group,” he said, adding that miscreants attacked and injured him during the clash.
Mechanic shot while returning home
In another incident, Saiful Islam, a refrigerator mechanic, was shot in Merul Badda Bazar Lane.
Saiful, son of bus driver Abul Kalam, is from Melandaha Upazila in Jamalpur and currently lives in the Molla Bari area of Middle Badda.
His father said Saiful was returning home after work around 11:30 pm when several helmet-wearing men stopped him near his residence.
Sensing danger, Saiful tried to flee, but the attackers fired at him from behind. Two bullets hit his right leg.
He collapsed in front of a shop in a bloodied condition. The shopkeeper informed his family, who later rescued him and took him to hospital.
Abul Kalam said his son had no personal disputes with anyone and that the reason behind the attack was unknown.
Police investigate incidents
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said doctors had confirmed that three people, including two with gunshot injuries, were brought to the hospital during the night.
He said all three received treatment and were later discharged.
Badda Police Station is investigating the incidents.
