Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized 81.50 litres of foreign liquor of various brands from two passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for exceeding the duty-free allowance.
Acting on a tip-off, CIID officials monitored the airport and intercepted Roman Mikhailov, a passenger arriving from Dubai on Emirates flight EK0584, at the green channel. A search of his luggage led to the recovery of 78.50 litres of liquor.
As he holds a foreign passport, he was allowed to bring in one litre duty-free under baggage rules, while the remaining 77.50 litres were seized.
In a separate incident on 29 September, officials stopped Samiul Islam, a passenger on Turkish Airlines flight TK0712, at the green channel. A search of his baggage uncovered four litres of liquor, which were also seized.
In the two operations, CIID seized a total of 81.50 litres of foreign liquor beyond the permitted duty-free limit.
