Bangladesh’s stock market fell again on Thursday, a day after a modest rebound, as selling pressure returned after the first hour of trading and dragged most securities lower.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) opened higher, with most shares and units gaining, sending the main indices up in early trading.
The trend reversed after about an hour, however, with securities shifting from gainers to decliners through the rest of the session.
At the close, 85 securities advanced, 242 declined and 58 remained unchanged.
The benchmark DSEX fell 18 points to 5,531. The DSE-30 index, which tracks 30 selected companies, dropped four points to 2,103, while the Shariah-based DSES declined two points to 1,100.
Trading activity strengthened despite the market decline. Turnover rose to Tk723.11 crore from Tk699.11 crore in the previous session, an increase of Tk24 crore.
Tung Hai Knitting and Dyeing led the gainers, rising 40 poisha, or 9.52 per cent, to Tk4.60.
Dominage Steel Building Systems gained Tk4.70, or 7.65 per cent, to Tk66.10, while Samata Leather Industries rose Tk6.60, or 7.33 per cent, to Tk96.60.
