Addressing the activity-banned Awami League, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said those who fled on 5 August 2024 had their organisation banned due to 17 years of misdeeds, leaving no scope for their organisational activities.
He added that while they occasionally attempt isolated and scattered misdeeds, everyone must remain alert and vigilant regarding this.
The minister was speaking as chief guest on Friday at introductory meeting of the newly formed Dattapara Union and Ward Mohila Dal committee in Chandraganj Upazila, Lakshmipur.
Addressing the opposition, the minister said those in opposition must consider that BNP is the ruling party, and it is not possible to accomplish all work in six months.
He questioned whether it is fitting for the opposition to hold processions, meetings, long marches, and road marches at every turn under such circumstances.
He further said that prior to the election, opposition figures claimed they were “God’s party” and could grant heaven to voters. By striking at vulnerable points with such statements, they attempted to win the votes of many.
Questioning whether any political party can actually grant heaven, he stressed that heaven is purely a matter of faith and belief and is ordained by God’s command.
Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy was present as a special guest at the function.
Other prominent attendees included Chandraganj Upazila BNP President M Bellal Hossain, as well as Mohila Dal leaders Sokina Begum, Tajnehar Begum, Najmun Nahar, and Rabeya Begum, among others.
