The High Court has granted six-month bail to Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, the prime accused in the murder case over the killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag in front of Mitford Hospital in Dhaka.
However, Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal said on Thursday that a leave-to-appeal petition had been filed with the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Syed Hasan Zubair granted Mohin bail with a rule on 28 September after hearing his petition.
The attorney general confirmed that the petition seeking a stay on the bail had been filed with the Appellate Division.
Sohag was beaten to death with stones in public on a busy road in front of Mitford Hospital on 9 July 02025.
The following day, his sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station.
The case names 19 people and accuses another 15 to 20 unidentified individuals.
Trial proceedings against 21 accused began on 12 July at the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka.
