A teen was stabbed to death near Lane No. 4 of Pahartali Wireless Colony in Khulshi area of Chattogram on Tuesday night.
Police have arrested five people in connection with the killing, while a case is being filed.
The victim, Hridoy, lived with his family in Wireless Colony and helped his visually impaired father sell vegetables from a roadside stall.
Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Abdur Rahim confirmed the incident.
According to the police, an acquaintance called Hridoy while he was having dinner. He left home and was later found stabbed. He was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said preliminary findings suggest the killing was linked to extortion involving the vegetable stall and a senior-junior feud. The exact motive remains under investigation.
A local Swechchhasebak Dal leader had set up several illegal stalls on roads and pavements in Wireless Colony and nearby areas, with his associates allegedly collecting rent from stallholders.
Locals said Hridoy and his father were also regularly charged money. An altercation took place between Hridoy and the collectors a few days before the killing over the extortion money.
