Chief Selector Habibul Bashar has confirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is placing maximum priority on the national team’s four remaining ICC World Test Championship (WTC ) matches this year.
Bangladesh face two home Tests against West Indies before heading on an away tour to South Africa for two further fixtures. Speaking to media on Monday, Bashar highlighted the strategic importance of the upcoming schedule.
“The Test series we have against West Indies and South Africa is extremely important,” Bashar said. “We are moving forward by giving highest priority to those matches.”
Addressing selection strategy ahead of the upcoming Test match against Afghanistan, Bashar dismissed suggestions of widespread squad experimentation, insisting that maintaining team momentum remains the primary objective.
“There is a question over whether we will go into experimentation. I do not think so,” Bashar explained. “We are taking the Afghanistan Test match and West Indies very seriously. We are in good momentum and do not want to ruin it. We will try to assess three or four players, but our first priority will always be winning the match.”
Bashar also praised the squad’s depth, referencing the performance of the fast-bowling unit during the recent tour of Australia as proof of a resilient bench.
“When our team went to Australia, Nahid was doing very well, but he could not play, and Shoriful could not play either,” Bashar added. “Yet we bowled Australia out. It is a very positive sign for us that our bench strength is extremely strong.”
