A security guard at the Haque Dockyard in South Keraniganj died after being stabbed early on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Ahmed Dewan, 60. The incident took place at about 5.30am in the Kautail area of South Keraniganj.
Dewan was found critically injured and was taken to Ad-Din Hospital at first. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at about 9.30am.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in-charge Faruk confirmed the death, citing doctors. He said the body had been kept in the morgue.
Ahmed’s daughter, Rekha Akter, said the family lived in Dakshin Pangao in South Keraniganj. Her father had worked as a security guard at the Haque Dockyard for the past 25 years.
He was scheduled to begin duty at 6am and left home at about 5am. Shortly after he left for work, the family received word that he had been stabbed at the dockyard.
The family said they did not know who attacked him or why. They also said Dewan had no known enemies.
