Footballer Cuba Mitchell has ended his contract with Bashundhara Kings, citing unpaid salary issues.
Mitchell shared the decision in a statement on Facebook. He said the move came after long standing payment problems that remained unresolved.
“Today, I have made the decision to bring my contract with Bashundhara Kings to an end following outstanding salary payments,” Mitchell wrote. He added that continuing under such conditions was “both mentally and physically challenging.”
Cuba Mitchell joined Bashundhara Kings on 28 July 2025. He signed a three year deal with the Bangladesh Football League club. Just weeks later, on 12 August 2025, he made his professional debut for the team. He came on as a second half substitute in a 1–0 win over Al-Karamah SC in the preliminary stage of the AFC Challenge League 2025–26.
Despite the short spell, Mitchell said his time at the club left an impact on him. “Although my time here was short, it was impactful,” he wrote. He praised his teammates and supporters for making him feel welcome.
The footballer said he stayed professional throughout his stay. “Throughout my stay, I remained fully professional,” he wrote, adding that players give commitment and belief, and “in return, basic obligations must be honoured.”
Mitchell said he leaves without bitterness. He thanked the people he met and said those experiences will stay with him.
He also spoke about the bigger picture of football in the country. “Bangladeshi football deserves better,” he wrote, calling for stronger structures and fairness for players.
Mitchell ended by supporting players facing similar problems. He said no footballer should feel powerless for simply asking to be treated fairly and professionally.
