Three masked robbers carried out a robbery at a telecom shop in Meherpur Sadar upazila, looted cash and four mobile phones, and fled after detonating a bomb.
The assailants also injured Nahid Islam, the owner of “NH Telecom” located at Tergharia Tower, with a sharp weapon around 9:20pm on Friday.
Arriving on a motorcycle, they held Nahid hostage at gunpoint and snatched Tk 1.9 lakh in cash from his bag. They also took away the mobile phones used for transactions through bKash, Nagad, Rocket, and Upay.
Nahid, 34, received treatment following the attack. He said the bomb blast during their escape left him and local residents in fear, and the total loss amounted to nearly Tk 4 lakh.
Meherpur Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said police had visited the scene and launched operations to arrest those involved. The incident is being investigated, he added.
