The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested two alleged drug dealers and seized 40kg of cannabis worth around Tk16 lakh in Bhola.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Monday morning, said a press release.
He said the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations in its areas of responsibility to maintain security, uphold law and order, and prevent drug trafficking and smuggling.
As part of the ongoing efforts, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard base Bhola based on a tip-off at Baghar Hawla of East Ilisha union of Bhola around 5:00pm on Sunday.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel searched a suspicious CNG-run vehicle in the area and recovered 40kg of cannabis, valued around Tk16 lakh, and arrested two suspected drug dealers.
Legal action against the seized cannabis and the arrested individuals is currently underway.
The Coast Guard officer added that the force would continue such operations in the future to prevent the spread of drugs.
