The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West) has uncovered alleged value-added tax (VAT) evasion of Tk82 lakh by clothing retailer Shopping Zone Bd following an inspection of its showroom and business records.

According to the revenue authority, preliminary evidence of Tk82.03 lakh in unpaid VAT was found after analysing sales records seized during a raid on the company’s premises in Shyamoli, Dhaka. Acting on confidential information, officials conducted a surprise inspection at Shopping Zone Bd’s outlet on 16 September.

During the operation, officials detected indications of VAT irregularities and seized the company’s central processing unit (CPU) alongside relevant documents under VAT Form 12.3 for further verification.
