A farmer was killed and three others injured in a clash between two groups over clearing weeds from farmland in Chalbun Haor of Baniyachong Upazila in Habiganj on Monday morning.
The deceased was Tahir Mia, 48, son of late Tajim Ullah of Kursha Khagaura village under Khagaura Union.
Police and locals said Tahir went to the haor around 9am with his brothers Shahid Mia and Anu Mia to clear weeds from their land.
At the time, a group including neighbouring residents Chajahir Ullah, Sharif and Bakkar allegedly obstructed them, leading to an argument.
The dispute later turned into a clash, leaving Tahir, Shahid, Anu and Swapna Begum injured.
Family members rescued the injured and took them to Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Tahir dead.
The other three received treatment at the hospital.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Baniyachong Circle Prabash Kumar Singha said the killing appeared to be linked to a previous land dispute.
“Police are investigating the matter in detail and efforts are underway to arrest those involved,” he said.
