The body of Asadul Haque, who was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), has been handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through the Thakurgaon border.
Lt Col Abdullah Al Moin, commander of Dinajpur 42 BGB, said a flag meeting was held with the BSF at the zero line of the Chanderhat border on Sunday afternoon to arrange the repatriation. Following legal formalities, the BSF handed over the body to the BGB around 10pm, UNB reports.
Two other Bangladeshi nationals, Mostakim and Sri Uda, survived the shooting but remain in Indian custody. They were charged under India’s Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A court in Raiganj ordered them into 14 days of judicial custody. Mostakim, son of Ahed Ali, and Sri Uda, son of Narayan, are residents of North Indrail village in Pirganj.
Asadul was the son of Abdul Wazed of South Indrail village in Pirganj upazila.
Locals and BGB sources said several Bangladeshi youths crossed into Indian territory near border pillar No. 333 under Chanderhat Border Outpost early Saturday. A patrol team from the BSF’s 63 Chakshibananda camp in North Dinajpur opened fire, injuring Asadul, Mostakim, and Sri Uda.
BSF personnel later took them to Kaliaganj State General Hospital in North Dinajpur, where Asadul died.
