A 22-year-old youth who was stabbed six days ago in Mirpur’s Pallabi died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The deceased, Sajeeb, 22, succumbed to his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DMCH. Police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident, and a murder case is currently under process.
According to the victim’s maternal cousin, Sharmin Akter, Sajeeb resided with his family in the No 5 WAPDA area of Mirpur Section-10 and worked at a clothing sales shop in Mirpur-10.
The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning at the Kailar Basti intersection (also referred to as the Kailar Math area). Sharmin Akter said that Bailla Jowel, Joy, and three to four others intercepted Sajeeb to snatch his mobile phone and wallet. When Sajeeb broke free from their grasp and attempted to run, the attackers stabbed him in the back from behind.
Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashedul Islam Swadhin confirmed that the attackers inflicted a knife wound on the right side of Sajeeb’s back.
Despite severe bleeding, Sajeeb managed to reach near his residence. Learning of the attack, family members rescued him and initially took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
After receiving primary treatment, he was brought home, but his physical condition subsequently deteriorated. His family then admitted him to DMCH on Wednesday evening, where he remained under treatment until his death on Monday morning.
The family acknowledged that Sajeeb was also a drug addict, but insisted that the suspects stabbed him specifically to snatch his mobile phone and money during the early morning confrontation. The victim’s relatives have demanded proper justice for the killing.
Sub-Inspector Rashedul Islam Swadhin confirmed that police detained Joy on the day of the incident (Wednesday) and Jowel on Monday morning. A murder case regarding the incident is currently being processed.
