Chittagong University (CU) has appointed two new Pro-Vice Chancellors to strengthen academic and administrative leadership.
Professor Dr Mohammed Al-Amin of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences has been named Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), while Professor Dr Md. Safiqul Islam of the Department of Political Science has been appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration).
The appointments were formalised through two separate notifications issued today, signed by Md. Sultan Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of the Public Universities Section under the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division.
According to the notifications, the appointments have been approved by the President and Chancellor in line with Section 14(1) of the Chittagong University Act, 1973.
The new Pro-Vice Chancellors will serve a four-year term from their date of joining, or until reaching retirement age, whichever comes first. Professor Safiqul Islam will receive a salary and allowances equivalent to his current position, along with other benefits as per applicable rules.
Both appointees are required to reside on campus full-time and exercise the powers and responsibilities assigned by the Vice-Chancellor under the university’s laws and statutes. The notifications also state that the President and Chancellor may revoke the appointments if deemed necessary.
