Seven Bangladeshi citizens returned home through the Tamabil land port in Sylhet on Tuesday afternoon after serving jail terms in India for illegal entry.
The returnees are Mohibur Rahman and Abdul Kuddus of Naigang area in Sunamganj Sadar upazila, Manik Ahmed of Tukerbazar village, Suhel Ahmed of Chanpur village, Al Amin of Bongao village, Badsha Mia of Srihai village in Shalla upazila, and Restli Balah of Sangrampunji area in Gowainghat upazila.
They were repatriated through the Tamabil land port in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet on Tuesday around 3pm.
Tamabil Immigration Police said the individuals had previously entered India illegally through different border points in Sylhet.
Indian authorities later detained them and produced them before a court, which sent them to jail.
They subsequently served long-term sentences at Shillong District Jail in Meghalaya before being repatriated following completion of legal formalities.
Tamabil Immigration Officer-in-Charge Sub-Inspector Bazlur Rashid said the repatriation was carried out through proper legal procedures in the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Border Security Force (BSF), and officials from both countries.
He added that after completion of formalities, the individuals were handed over to their respective family members.
