A Sub-Inspector (SI) deployed for the security of Ashuganj Fertiliser Factory in Brahmanbaria committed suicide on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain Talukder, 52, who worked as an Armed Sub-Inspector.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin) Arafatul Islam confirmed the incident.
The incident occurred around 7:30am inside his room at the factory’s police outpost.
According to the police, SI Jahangir shot himself in the head with his officially issued service pistol while on duty in his room at the outpost.
Initial findings indicate that the incident may have been triggered by a family dispute, though exact details regarding the precise reason for the suicide have not yet been confirmed.
Upon receiving the information, various units of the police visited the scene.
“Information has been sent to his family members. Once they arrive, we will speak with them to confirm whether a family feud was involved,” the Additional SP Arafatul said.
The body has been recovered and sent to the morgue at Brahmanbaria General Hospital for an autopsy.
