The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved 13 projects with a total estimated outlay of Tk58,088.92 crore.
The approval came at an Ecnec meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, presided over by Prime Minister and Ecnec Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
Out of the total outlay of Tk58,088.92 crore, the government will provide Tk50,041.20 crore from its own funds, Tk7,974.65 crore will be drawn as project loans, and the remaining Tk73.07 crore will be contributed from the own funds of the respective organisations.
Among the 13 approved projects, 11 are new and two are revised.
Major sectoral allocations
The meeting approved five projects under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, including “Safe Water Supply and Sanitation in Barind Area Project,” “Preservation of Banks, Recovery, and Re-excavation Works of Various Canals in Barisal City Corporation (Phase 1) Project,” “Innovation for Climate Smart Urban Development Project,” “Social Infrastructure Development Project (SIDP),” and “Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project on Priority Basis-03 (3rd Revised) Project.”
Under the Ministry of Home Affairs, two projects were approved, “Procurement of Specialised Vehicles to Increase the Capacity of Bangladesh Police” and “Procurement of Operational Vehicles to Increase the Capacity of Bangladesh Police.”
The meeting also approved the ‘Construction of “B” Type Officers’ Quarters in Mainul Road Residential Area of Dhaka Cantonment’ project under the Ministry of Defence, and the ‘Construction of Multi-storey Residential Buildings for Government Employees in Jigatala Gavtali Colony’ project under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
Furthermore, approval was given to the “Establishment of Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) at 5 Medical College Hospital Campuses in the Country” project under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the “Fifth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP 5)” project under the Ministry of Education, the “Drilling of 2 Evaluation-cum-Development Wells (Titas 32 and 33) in Titas Gas Field” project under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and the “Construction of Bridges/Culverts up to 15 Metres Length on Rural Roads (3rd Revised)” project under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
Projects approved by planning minister
Meanwhile, the planning minister has already approved five projects costing less than Tk 50 crore each, and the Ecnec meeting was informed about these projects.
The projects are – “Modernisation of Cardiac Care Services at Dinajpur Zia Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute,” “Ensuring Safe Internet Use for Secondary Level Students including Children and Adolescents in the Country,” “Traffic Infrastructure Development and Road Safety Project in Dhaka North City Corporation Area (1st Revised),” “Expansion and Modernisation of Dhaka Central Drug Addiction Treatment Centre (1st Revised),” and “Procurement of Modern Vehicles and Machinery for Waste Management Improvement in Gazipur City Corporation Project.”
