Director Raihan Khan’s upcoming film ‘Tribunal’ is steadily moving towards completion, with roughly three quarters of its shoot finished and an Eid release pencilled in. The courtroom thriller, which draws inspiration from a notorious 2011 murder case in Chattogram, was highlighted at a press briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday (December 9) evening.
Rather than retelling the real incident, Tribunal aims to explore the moral grey areas that emerge when justice, political influence and personal agendas collide. Raihan described the project as a film that challenges both its characters and its audiences, noting that the narrative structure will break from conventional Bangladeshi courtroom dramas.
The director confirmed that Nusrat Faria leads the cast as a London-educated barrister who takes on the defence of the accused. He said the character has been crafted as sharp, stylish and strategically clever, with her role central to the unfolding conflict. The film also features Tariq Anam Khan, Saberi Alam, Mousumi Hamid, Tania Brishti, Saira Akhter Jahan, Adar Azad, Shahed Ali, Milan Bhattacharya, Ashok Bepari, Rakib Hossain Yvon and Upma in key roles.
Mousumi Hamid revealed that she was drawn to the project after hearing the story, describing it as unlike anything she had encountered before. She plays the only eyewitness in a case involving twenty-six witnesses, which she believes gives the film a unique emotional weight.
Tania Brishti, returning to cinema after almost a decade, said she accepted the role because of her trust in Raihan Khan and the strength of the script. She added that she approached her character with a renewed sense of dedication after years away from the screen.
Raihan Khan, known for his work as a cinematographer and writer, has built a career across television and film. His screenplay for ‘Mridha Bonam Mridha’ reached cinemas in 2021, and his Hoichoi series ‘Dour’ earned critical praise.
While the Tribunal team gears up for Eid, Raihan has said the final decision will depend on the pace of post-production, which he is not willing to rush.
