Mostafizul Haque, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and eminent artist, has expressed hope that exploring and practising the artistic and cultural similarities between China and Bangladesh will further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries and contribute to improving the quality of life.
He made the remarks in his welcome address at the Bangladesh-China Traditional Dress Exhibition and Art Workshop held at the Shanto-Mariam University campus on Tuesday, reads a press release.
At the event, Pu Bingyuan, vice p resident of Chengdu Vocational University of Light Industry, highlighted the similarities, shared goals and objectives between the two universities’ career-oriented and employment-focused educational programmes.
He invited the authorities of Shanto-Mariam University to visit their university and emphasised the importance of academic exchanges in contributing to the educational, artistic and cultural development of both countries.
Shanto-Mariam University Vice-Chancellor Md Shah-e-Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Design and Technology Shishir Kumar Bhattacharjee, Registrar Par Mashiur Rahman, heads of various departments, teachers and officials of the university attended the event.
Associate Professor Afroza Haque Daisy, Head of the Department of Fashion Design and Technology (FDT), and her team planned and supervised the event.
Various garments featuring indigenous traditional designs created by students were displayed at the exhibition. The displays also included Nakshi Kantha, a traditional spinning wheel, hand fans, winnowing baskets, pottery, dolls and other traditional products.
Teacher representatives from Chengdu Vocational University of Light Industry also presented various products created by their students and highlighted their educational activities. They also conducted a Shu embroidery workshop on traditional Chinese hand fans and distributed certificates to participants.
The Director of the Confucius Classroom, heads of various departments, Mr Mike, Director of Chengdu University, Ms Idas, Secretary, and other members of the visiting delegation were also present.
Chengdu Vocational University of Light Industry, the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh and the Department of Fashion Design and Technology of Shanto-Mariam University jointly organised the event.
Mahiuddin Taher, Bangladeshi Director of the Confucius Classroom, moderated the programme.
