Barrister Zaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has been appointed as a legal officer in the office of the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Khalilur Rahman.
According to UN officials, Zaima Rahman will oversee legal matters in her role as legal officer.
Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Khalilur Rahman, took charge as the president of the 81st UN General Assembly on 8 September. A total of 40 personnel hold various posts in his office, among whom six are Bangladeshis, including Zaima Rahman.
Among the other Bangladeshi appointees, diplomat Abdul Alim will serve as the deputy chief of cabinet. Moazzem Hossain has been appointed as adviser and administrative assistant; Mafizul Islam as senior adviser on information, artificial intelligence and strategic forecasting; Zakir Ahmed as senior adviser on sustainable development and climate change; and Md Rafiqul Alam Mollah as senior adviser on Countries with Special Needs.
Abdul Alim, who has been appointed as deputy chief of cabinet, is a career diplomat with extensive experience and previously served in various Bangladesh missions abroad.
Zaima Rahman is the only daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman. She is also the granddaughter of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
