Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue, MP, has said drugs are a major driver of crime in Cox’s Bazar and the government is taking measures to eliminate the menace.
“Drugs are not only an issue in Cox’s Bazar; it is a nationwide concern. Drug involvement is linked to all types of crimes in Cox’s Bazar as well as across the country,” he said at a special meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
The minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts and sincere cooperation among all stakeholders to maintain law and order and ensure peace and stability in the district.
The meeting, organised by the district administration, reviewed government activities related to law and order, corruption and drug control, good governance, transparency and accountability, as well as public welfare and development initiatives.
Prue said peace, discipline and public safety in Cox’s Bazar could be strengthened further through closer coordination among the administration, law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan.
Lawmakers Lutfur Rahman Kajal and Advocate Shamima Ara Swapna, Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman, and senior officials from different law enforcement agencies and government departments also spoke at the meeting.
Officials from various government departments, law enforcement agencies, public representatives and other stakeholders were present.
