A 14‑month‑old girl died after falling from the stairs of a house in Banani’s Saat Tola slum in Dhaka.
The incident occurred around 8am on Sunday at a two‑storey tin‑shed house in the slum.
Khadijatul Kubra (Khadija) was the daughter of Dulal Khan and Samina Begum of Kutubpur village in Sariakandi upazila, Bogura.
Her mother, Samina Akter, said both she and her husband work as cleaners.
She said that they left for work, leaving Khadija in the care of their 12‑year‑old son Talim on Sunday morning.
Talim fell asleep, and while crawling, Khadija tumbled down the stairs from the second floor, she also said.
Neighbours noticed and informed the parents, who rushed home and took her to a hospital. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead after examination.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in‑charge of the DMCH police camp, said the child’s body has been kept at the morgue.
