The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Thursday set Sunday (27 September) for the hearing on charge framing against 10 individuals, including former inspectors general of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque and Mohammad Javed Patwary, in a case over crimes against humanity involving the 2016 killing of seven youths in Gazipur after branding them as militants.
Prosecutor Mamunur Rashid conducted the hearing on behalf of the prosecution, which sought time for the proceeding.
The prosecution said that seven individuals detained from different parts of the country were taken to a house in Gazipur on 8 October 2016 and shot dead, with authorities at the time claiming they were militants.
However, a probe by the ICT investigation agency revealed that the seven victims had been arrested from various places in Bangladesh at different times, subjected to enforced disappearance for a prolonged period, and subsequently shot dead.
Among the deceased was Ibrahim, who studied at a madrasa in Jatrabari. Following the July Mass Uprising, Ibrahim’s father filed a complaint with the tribunal’s investigation agency alleging the extrajudicial disappearance and murder of his son.
On 3 February 2026, the prosecution submitted formal charges against 10 individuals—including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque and Mohammad Javed Patwary—alleging crimes against humanity in connection with the incident.
Former police officers Md Asaduzzaman Mia, Md Monirul Islam and Harun-or-Rashid have also been named as accused, while former IGP Shahidul Hoque and Asaduzzaman Mia are currently in prison following their arrest.
