A schoolboy died after falling from the rooftop of a seven-storey building in the Islambagh area of Chawkbazar in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased, Alif, 13, was a fourth-grade student at Islambagh Ashraf Ali School. He was the son of Md Kabir Hossain and lived with his family in East Islambagh’s Boubazar area.
According to his family, Alif was playing on the rooftop of their home around 2pm when he accidentally fell from the seventh floor.
He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment at around 6:30pm.
His elder brother, Md Shawon Ahmed, confirmed the incident.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“Chawkbazar police are investigating the incident,” he said.
