Teachers, officers and employees of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have launched protests demanding the reinstatement of removed Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, announcing a fresh programme.
The press conference was held at 3pm on Thursday, with leaders of the Teachers’ Association and Officers and Employees Association attending.
They said a quick resolution to the current situation was necessary to maintain the momentum of Cuet’s academic and administrative activities and continue the university’s ongoing development.
The speakers said initiatives were being taken to submit a memorandum to the relevant authorities. They also said discussions were underway to place the situation and their demands before the education minister.
Meanwhile, teachers, officers and employees have announced a strike and work abstention programme on the Cuet campus on Sunday from 11am to 1pm.
They warned that tougher programmes would be announced if the government failed to resolve the issue within a short timeframe.
Responding to a journalist’s question about the newly appointed vice-chancellor, Cuet Teachers’ Association President Professor Mohammad Ahsanullah said, “We do not want the new VC at the university.”
