Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have painted graffiti across campus walls demanding the reinstatement of recently removed Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem.
As part of their ongoing movement, students chose graffiti as a medium of protest. Through writings and drawings on walls, they voiced opposition to the removal of Prof. Sayem after only 56 days in office and demanded his reinstatement.
Tahsin Ifaz, a third‑year student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, said, “Since morning we have been painting graffiti as our language of protest. Graffiti is one way to express our dissent. This programme is to protest why our Vice‑Chancellor was replaced after just 56 days. We want Professor Sayem reinstated. We also reject the appointment of a new VC imposed from outside our demands.”
Earlier, students staged a series of programmes including a full shutdown, sit‑ins, human chains, mass signature campaigns, torch processions and demonstrations to press for Sayem’s reinstatement.
The CUET Teachers’ Association has also announced a full work stoppage from Sunday in support of the same demand.
On 21 September, the Ministry of Education issued a notification relieving Prof. Sayem of his duties as VC and appointing Prof. Sheikh Shariful Alam as his successor. He later assumed office online, but students rejected his joining and have continued their protest.
