East West University (EWU) celebrated its 30th founding anniversary with a day-long programme at its campus in Aftabnagar, Dhaka, on 26 September 2026, attended by members of the Board of Trustees, university administration, faculty members, students and alumni.
The celebrations began in the morning with the release of colourful balloons, followed by a rally around the campus and surrounding areas. The event featured a reflection session and a cultural programme on the university’s open premises.
Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of EWU, delivered the welcome address at the reflection session. Professor Dr. Anindita Paul spoke on behalf of faculty members, while Rozina Parvin represented administrative officers.
Dr. Rubana Huq, Vice-Chancellor of Asian University for Women, addressed the event on behalf of EWU alumni. Munize Manzur spoke representing the Board of Trustees, while former Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan shared his memories of the university.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Founder Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of EWU, attended the event as chief guest and highlighted the university’s three decades of academic journey and achievements.
Speakers recalled EWU’s journey, which began in September 1996 with 20 students, and highlighted its progress in providing higher education and advancing research. They also outlined a strategic vision for strengthening the university’s global position in the coming years.
Students, alumni and faculty members performed at a cultural programme held during and at the conclusion of the event. The celebration was attended by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, deans of various faculties, department chairs, faculty members, current students and alumni.
