“Coffee O Kobita”, a poetry book, was launched through an evening of coffee, poetry and music, bringing together poets, literature enthusiasts and cultural figures.
Organisers say it is more than a poetry collection. It is a creative preservation of the many emotions that gather around coffee: memory, love, longing, expectation and silence.
Compiled and edited by Jobuydul Islam and published by Oitijjhya, the volume brings together poems from both established and newer voices, all centred on one theme.
In the book’s introductory note, Jobuydul writes that just as steam rises from a cup of coffee, thoughts, memories and dreams stir within people and poetry becomes a companion to that inner world. The collection grew from that idea.
Speakers at the launch praised the book’s thematic range and its presentation. The organisers expressed hope that it would offer Bengali readers a distinctive literary experience. The book suggests that coffee, in this context, is not simply a drink. It is a language.
A publication evening for the book was held at Cafelytics in Dhanmondi on Tuesday, April 7.
