Bangladesh University (BU) on Monday organised a seminar on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research, highlighting emerging research methods, practical applications and the importance of ethical AI adoption in higher education.
The seminar titled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Academic Research: Emerging Trends, Research Methodology, and Practical Applications,’ was organised by the university’s Department of Business Administration at the BU seminar hall, said a press release.
BU Vice-Chancellor Md Jahangir Alam attended the event as chief guest, while BU Registrar Brig Gen Md Mahbubul Haque (Retd), and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics Md Tajul Islam joined as special guests. The session was chaired by Head of the Department of Business Administration Gazi Md Abu Issa Nur.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Management at St Bonaventure University’s School of Business, USA, Mansura Nusrat delivered the keynote presentation on AI’s growing role in research design, data analysis and academic innovation.
Nusrat said AI tools are making research more dynamic, data-driven and efficient but stressed the need for responsible and ethical use to address concerns related to misuse, data reliability and academic integrity. She also highlighted the need to reconsider traditional teaching and evaluation methods amid the rapid growth of AI-generated content and automated technologies.
Speaking at the event, Md Jahangir Alam said AI is transforming education, research and academic activities and is no longer limited to a future concept. He said BU has prioritised research and innovation and has already established an Artificial Intelligence Centre to support AI-based research and projects across departments.
Mahbubul Haque said technology-driven innovation and modern teaching and evaluation methods are essential for improving higher education quality and building the capacity of teachers and students.
The seminar was attended by faculty members, researchers and students from different departments of the university.
