The Power Division has issued a stern warning that it will take strict legal action against individuals or groups found spreading false information or “propaganda” regarding excessive electricity bills without valid evidence.
In an official clarification released on Monday, the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources expressed its strong protest against recent claims of inflated billing, describing them as misinformation.
The authorities maintained that all complaints previously received regarding additional electricity bills have already been resolved by the Power Division and its respective distribution companies. The statement emphasised that there is currently no scope for spreading confusion or “propaganda” on this matter.
However, the Power Division clarified that genuine grievances would still be addressed.
Any customer with a legitimate complaint regarding an excessive bill is encouraged to apply to the relevant authorities with supporting evidence, and effective measures will be taken to resolve the issue.
The division concluded by reiterating that if anyone is found disseminating false information about electricity bills with the intent to create confusion and without providing any proof, rigorous legal consequences will be pursued against the parties responsible.
