National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has warned that any attempt to rehabilitate children of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina will be resisted “with blood” by the 11-party alliance and the people of Bangladesh.
He made the remarks at a rally organised by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis in the Bhuighar area of Fatullah, Narayanganj on Saturday.
“If any attempt is made to rehabilitate Sheikh Hasina’s children, the people of Bangladesh, along with the 11-party alliance, will resist it even with their blood” he said.
Asif Mahmud also alleged that a political party chief, in an interview with a foreign media outlet, suggested that Sheikh Hasina’s children could return if the public wanted. He claimed this indicated an effort to bring them back into politics and rehabilitate them.
He said, “The events of 5 August, when students and the public shed blood, were not meant to allow their return.”
“If Sheikh Hasina could be forced to leave the country on 5 August, the victory of the 11-party alliance in the 12 February election is not a difficult matter,” he added.
He also criticised opposition political party, alleging that its leaders and activists were waiting “like hungry vultures” and would make people’s lives difficult if they returned to power.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque attended the programme as chief guest. He said the 11-party alliance had united against what he described as 17 years of repression, misrule, enforced disappearances, killings and deprivation.
He urged voters to defeat what he called the forces of terrorism, extortion, corruption and money laundering in the 12 February election.
He mentions that people were eagerly waiting to cast their votes.
Mamunul Haque also said “The alliance would support the most popular joint candidates in each constituency.”
Under the arrangement, Khelafat Majlis candidate Anwar Hossain has withdrawn from Narayanganj-4 in favour of NCP candidate Advocate Abdullah Al Amin. In Narayanganj-3, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Iqbal Hossain has been declared the joint candidate of the 11-party alliance.
