Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has praised Diljit Dosanjh for his rendition of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Sanson Ki Mala’ at his Wembley Stadium concert.
A video circulating on social media shows Rahat, Nusrat’s nephew and student, applauding Diljit’s tribute to the late qawwali legend.
He said even established singers can feel nervous performing Nusrat’s songs, but praised Diljit for singing the devotional track with sincerity.
“It would be an understatement to say that even the biggest artists get nervous while singing Khan Sahab’s songs. But Diljit has done complete justice to it,” Rahat said, adding that Diljit performed it “with all his heart”.
Diljit performed the song during his 12 September Aura World Tour show at Wembley, where he became the first Punjabi artist to headline the stadium. The concert reportedly drew around 90,000 people.
The song has also gained renewed attention after featuring in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’.
