The government has appointed administrators in five more city corporations. They will assume their duties on Sunday. This information was conveyed in a notification issued by the Ministry of Local Government on Saturday.
According to the notification, Bilkis Akhtar Jahan Shirin has been appointed as the administrator of Barishal City Corporation. Additionally, Mahfuzur Rahman has been appointed in Rajshahi City Corporation, Rukunuzzaman Rokon in Mymensingh City Corporation, Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury in Rangpur City Corporation, and Md. Yusuf Molla in Comilla City Corporation.
It further stated that the newly appointed administrators will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor according to sub-section (3) of section 25A of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2024. They will receive allowances according to the rules.
Among those appointed, Bilkis Akhtar Jahan is the Organizing Secretary (Barishal Division) of the BNP Central Committee, Mahfuzur Rahman is the General Secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP, Rukunuzzaman Rokon is the Member Secretary of Mymensingh South District BNP, Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury is the Member Secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP, and Md. Yusuf Molla is the General Secretary of Comilla Metropolitan BNP.
With this, the government has appointed administrators in 11 city corporations across the country. However, in Chattogram City Corporation, BNP leader Shahadat Hossain is performing the duties of mayor as per court order.
On February 23, administrators were appointed in six city corporations, including Dhaka North and South. Md. Abdus Salam was appointed in Dhaka South City Corporation, Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan in Dhaka North City Corporation, Nazrul Islam Manju in Khulna City Corporation, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury in Sylhet City Corporation, Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan in Narayanganj City Corporation, and Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar in Gazipur City Corporation.
