Police arrested three alleged criminals during a raid in Khulna city on Tuesday evening.
The arrests were made around 7:50pm from beside a mill in the Rupsha Bridge area under Labanchara Police Station. During the operation, police recovered a pistol, four rounds of ammunition and three crude bombs.
The arrestees were identified as Md Al Amin, 23; Md Rony Molla alias Kosai Rony, 28; and Swaran Jomaddar alias Sajal Jomaddar, 26.
According to police and local residents, the suspects allegedly used the names of two criminal groups in Khulna to extort money from owners of river terminals and landing stations. They allegedly threatened the victims when their demands were not met.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said police conducted a raid at the location on Tuesday night. Upon noticing the presence of law enforcers, the suspects attempted to flee.
Police later chased and arrested them, he said.
Shafiqul Islam added that multiple allegations had previously been lodged against the suspects and that preparations were underway to file a case in connection with the latest incident.
