The results from three halls of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections have been announced by the returning officers. The results indicate a significant lead for the candidates of Shibir-backed Oikkyaboddho Shikkharthi Jote in the top two positions.
Till the filing of this report, results from Amar Ekushey Hall, Suhrawardy Hall, and Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall were declared.
In these halls, the VP candidate of Oikkyaboddho Shikkharthi Jote, Abu Sadik Kayem, secured 2,750 votes, leading by a wide margin. His closest contender, the VP candidate supported by Chhatra Dal, Abidul Islam Khan, received 743 votes.
Additionally, in the results from these three halls, the GS position also saw Shibir-backed candidate SM Farhad leading. He garnered 1,999 votes across the three centres, while his closest rival, Sheikh Tanveer Bari Hamim, supported by Chhatra Dal, received 992 votes.
Voting for the DUCSU elections took place on Tuesday, September 9, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This year, voting occurred across eight centres on the university campus, with a total of 810 booths for DUCSU and hall council elections.
The total number of voters was 39,874, with 18,959 voters from five women’s halls and 20,915 from 13 men’s halls. A total of 471 candidates contested for 28 positions in DUCSU, while 1,035 candidates vied for 234 positions across 18 hall councils.
Voters were required to cast 41 votes in total.
The elections saw participation from at least 10 panels, both partial and full, with independent candidates also contesting.
While the voting process proceeded without any significant clashes or disturbances, several candidates raised complaints about violations of the code of conduct and allegations of ballot rigging.
