Abidul Islam Khan, the vice president candidate backed by Chhatra Dal in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, has rejected the preliminary results, describing them as a “planned farce.”
He made this statement in a Facebook post around 2:30am on Wednesday.
Abidul wrote, “I suspected the result of this planned rigging right after noon. Just make up your own numbers. I reject this planned farce.”
Earlier in the evening, Abidul held a press conference, accusing Shibir of vote rigging and claiming that the administration was providing support to Shibir. He also alleged that Jamaat-Shibir activists were gathering around Dhaka University.
In response, Shibir’s side accused Chhatra Dal of creating a fearful atmosphere on campus.
Following the day-long voting, the results began to be announced late into the night. Around 1:30am on Wednesday, the results of the Curzon Hall centre were declared.
According to the results, Shibir-backed candidates Sadik Kayem and SM Farhad were leading for the VP and GS positions, respectively, with a significant lead over Chhatra Dal’s candidates.
