An unreleased Bangladeshi feature film will make its visual world public through a special photography exhibition at Alliance Française de Dhaka from 15 to 19 September.
Titled An Apple Tree Inside the Head, the exhibition brings together raw, cinematic photographs from the film. It offers glimpses of its landscapes, characters, gestures and fleeting moments, allowing visitors to experience its atmosphere and form their own interpretation of the story before the film reaches the screen.
The exhibition will open on 15 September at 6pm at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, and remain open daily from 3pm to 9pm until 19 September. The film is awaiting censorship approval and release.
The story draws on the ancient myth of Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit, associated with knowledge, temptation and the loss of innocence. It follows Mintu Mridha, whose wife Jasmin and son Shohag often wander away from home as if caught in a trance. Believing an unseen force has entered his family, Mintu seeks help from a saint, who gives him a blessed apple believed to possess healing powers. But the apple remains untouched.
As strange patterns recur and reality begins to blur with illusion, the apple takes on a mysterious significance. It becomes a possible cure, a temptation and a sign of something unknowable. Caught between devotion and doubt, Mintu is drawn into a darkness that may be supernatural, psychological or something far older.
Written and directed by Fazly Rabbi Mridha, the film stars Mostafa Monwar, Jayita Mahalanobish, Abul Kalam Azad Setu and Sohag Mridha.
The production credits Goopy Bagha Productions Limited, Views & Vision Production, Bijon Imtiaz, Arifur Rahman and Josim Ahmed as producers. Sakib Iftekhar serves as executive producer, while Shomitra Partha is associate producer.
Manirul Islam and Dibbyo Samaddar are the directors of photography. Mahady Hasan Khan Samrat edited the film, with BIJON as editing supervisor. Saad handled colour grading, while Rasheed Sharif Shoaib composed the music and handled sound design and mixing. Sajib Ranjan Biswas handled production sound and associate sound design.
Mridha previously directed Payer Tolay Maati Nai, which won the Gautam Buddha Award for Best Feature Film at the fifth Nepal International Film Festival and a Special Jury Mention for Best Debut Film at the seventh Jaffna International Cinema Festival in Sri Lanka.
