In the midst of the recent fracas regarding the looting of white stones from Bholaganj’s “Sada Pathor” tourist area in Sylhet, the government has appointed Md Sarwar Alam as the new deputy commissioner (DC) of Sylhet district, replacing Mohammad Sher-e-Mahbub Morshed.
Prior to the appointment, Md Sarwar Alam had been serving as deputy secretary (attached) to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, it added.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday, followed by BSS confirming the matter.
The new deputy commissioner has been appointed shortly after Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan accused local administration of colluding with stone looters in Sylhet’s Bholaganj and demanded immediate action against those involved. This followed the arrest of five people by police on Saturday in connection with the incident.
