As relentless rainfall continues to flood large parts of Bangladesh, several prominent figures from the entertainment industry have taken to social media to express concern, pray for those affected and urge people to support flood-hit communities.
The floods have caused widespread suffering in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Habiganj and surrounding areas. Thousands of people have been stranded, while many families have lost homes or taken shelter on rooftops and in emergency shelters.
Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury, who is from Chattogram, prayed for those affected by floods and landslides. She asked Allah to grant patience and strength to people who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods. She also thanked rescue and relief workers and urged everyone to help victims according to their ability.
Actor Irfan Sajjad expressed concern for his hometown, saying Chattogram, including Banshkhali, Satkania, Chakaria, Lohagara, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban, was facing a severe crisis. He questioned the lack of major coverage despite reports of suffering, deaths and even graves being washed away.
Recalling how people from Chattogram supported victims during previous floods in Cumilla, Noakhali and Feni, Irfan urged others to show similar solidarity with flood-affected communities and ended his message with a prayer.
Actress Tanjim Saiara Totini also called for public support, saying thousands of homes in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Sylhet and Habiganj had gone underwater. She urged people in safer areas to help in any way possible, adding that even a packet of dry food or a bottle of drinking water could make a difference.
Bangladeshi singer and actor Sabrina Ehsan Porshi also reacted to the worsening situation with an emotional Facebook message. She said the images and videos from flood-hit areas were heartbreaking, with many people forced to leave their homes while struggling for food and clean drinking water. Porshi urged everyone to contribute according to their ability, saying even a small act of support could bring hope to those in need. She also prayed for the safety of affected people and hoped the situation would improve soon.
Actor Khairul Basar reflected on the crisis in a different way. Sharing a photograph of himself standing in rainwater, he quoted lines from a Bengali poem that came to his mind while thinking about the hardships people were facing.
Meanwhile, former Actors’ Equity Association president Ahsan Habib Nasim highlighted the impact of continuous rainfall in urban areas. Referring to rising water levels in Dhaka, he wrote, “Dal khichuri has become popular again, while towns and cities are floating in water,” using humour to describe the situation.
Popular small-screen actor Niloy Alamgir also expressed concern over the flood situation. He urged people to support not only affected communities but also helpless animals and birds suffering during the disaster.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday, Niloy wrote, “The flood situation in Bangladesh is extremely severe. May Almighty Allah give everyone the strength to overcome this disaster. Natural disasters are beyond anyone’s control. But it is important to find out the real reasons why floods and waterlogging repeatedly occur in cities and their surrounding areas and take initiatives for permanent solutions.”
Niloy stressed that emergency relief alone was not enough and called for long-term plans to prevent future crises. He also urged people to show compassion towards affected animals, including dogs and cats.
As floodwaters continue to rise across several districts, messages from the entertainment community carry a shared appeal for compassion, solidarity and timely support for thousands of Bangladeshis facing the disaster.
