Independent artist Utshob is making his debut with the original Bengali song “Hoimontika”, a release that marks his first step towards establishing an identity through songwriting, composition and performance.
Written, composed and performed by Utshob himself, “Hoimontika” blends melodic rock with emotionally driven storytelling. Its narrative draws from the romantic and nostalgic sensibilities of Bengali literature and cultural roots.
For Utshob, the release represents a shift from years of performing and creating music, including numerous cover performances, to presenting an original work that reflects his own artistic identity.
“I have spent years performing and creating music, including numerous cover performances, but ‘Hoimontika’ was the point where I decided to step forward with an original identity and tell a story that was genuinely my own,” Utshob said.
His musical journey has also developed alongside his professional career in the pharmaceutical industry. Working independently, he released “Hoimontika” without a major commercial campaign or conventional industry-backed launch.
The song crossed 60,000 listeners within its first four weeks across platforms. With continued sharing and organic circulation, it has now reached more than 100,000 listeners/audience across platforms.
“What surprised me most was that this response came without a major commercial campaign or a conventional industry-backed launch,” he said.
Utshob sees the journey as being about more than a single song. It is also an attempt by an independent Bangladeshi artist from a different professional background to build an audience through his own songwriting, composition and performance.
“I feel there is a story here beyond the song itself,” he said.
