The Bangladesh-France joint production The Orange, titled Pother Bondhu in Bangla, is set to begin shooting across 25 cities in France. Directed by Swapan Ahmed, the road movie follows the journey of a young woman who travels to France and explores the lives of three migrants.
Shooting will begin in Paris on 15 October and continue until 5 November. The artistes will leave Dhaka on 11 October to join the production.
The film will be shot across different locations in France, including cities, villages, markets, roads and coastal areas. Faizul Yameen and Swarnali Choity will play the two central characters, while Tauquir Ahmed will appear in another key role.
The director has placed particular emphasis on authentic locations. Rather than presenting France as a tourist destination, the film aims to capture the country through the everyday lives of its people.
The journey of the three migrants will take the story from cities to villages and eventually to the sea. The changing landscapes of France will also become an important part of the film’s narrative.
The Orange reflects the kind of cinema Swapan Ahmed wants to make, with a story that focuses on people and encourages audiences to think, question and develop new perspectives.
Impress Telefilm Limited is producing the film from Bangladesh. The project’s mahurat ceremony was recently held at the company’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, where Tauquir Ahmed, Faizul Yamin, Swarnali Chaity and Impress Telefilm managing director Faridur Reza Sagar were present.
Tauquir Ahmed has also described the film as the kind of cinema he believes in—one that encourages people to think, raises questions and helps create new perspectives.
The Orange is Swapan Ahmed’s third feature film. He previously directed Lal Tip and Porobashini.
