Johnny Depp has signalled that he is open to playing Captain Jack Sparrow again, provided a new Pirates of the Caribbean film can give the franchise the send-off he believes it deserves. The actor said his main wish would be to help the series end on a better note.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Depp said he would consider a comeback if the story and plans for the franchise were right. He also expressed his readiness to work with producer Jerry Bruckheimer again, describing their bond as one built on trust and deep friendship.

“I will go to work with [Jerry] Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. Doesn’t matter… if it’s Jerry, I trust him. We have a deep friendship,” he said.

As reported by Deadline, Bruckheimer said at D23 that he was in talks with Depp while work continued on the screenplay for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. “We’re talking with Johnny [Depp] … hopefully we can get this done,” he said.

Depp played Sparrow in five films, from The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) to Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). In 2024, Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that a reboot scripted by Jeff Nathanson and a separate Margot Robbie-centred film written by Christina Hodson were also in development.
