Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar 2’, starring Ranveer Singh and R Madhavan, has come under scrutiny after a scene reportedly offended the Sikh community.
The sequence shows Madhavan’s character smoking while reciting a verse from the Dasam Granth, authored by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru.
According to Hindustan Times, an FIR has been filed at Mulund Police Station by Gurjyot Singh Keer, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader and president of the organisation Sikhs in Maharashtra. The complaint names director Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh and R Madhavan, claiming the depiction is disrespectful to Gurbani.
On Instagram, Gurjyot urged the Sikh community to unite and stage peaceful protests. He stressed the verse’s historical significance during the period of persecution under Aurangzeb and said black flags should be displayed to the film’s makers and actors if a sincere apology is not issued to the SGPC and the Sikh community.
The controversy was amplified by social media posts, including an AI-generated poster showing a Sikh character smoking, which officials later clarified was not official content from the film.
Despite the debate, Dhurandhar 2 continues to perform well at the box office, and the makers have yet to respond publicly to the FIR or the objections raised.
